About Grab Your Wallet.

What we stand for.

Grab Your Wallet is a community of people flexing our power to promote a more just, equitable, and democratic society. We do three main things:

  • We promote equity, belonging, respect, justice, and democracy
  • We encourage corporations and other institutions to evolve in positive, more equitable directions
  • We shine a light on unethical institutional practices and amplify underrepresented voices 

Our aim is to hold powerful corporations and other institutions accountable and promote shifts in policies that expand opportunities for systemically marginalized groups.

We exclusively serve big-hearted, fair-minded people who value equity and belonging. We especially serve women, who make or influence the vast majority of the world's purchasing decisions. Together, we hold an enormous amount of power. 

Grab Your Wallet Alliance is a 501(c)4 nonprofit organization that is supported by grants and individual donations. 

How we got Started.

In 2016, the release of the Access Hollywood tape revealed a lewd conversation about women between presidential candidate Donald Trump and television host Billy Bush. At the time, the Trump team was using the presidential run as a way to monetize its brands from the campaign trail.

The resulting #GrabYourWallet boycott demonstrated women’s spending power and offered a peaceful, impactful way to protest the Trump administration’s serial targeting of women, immigrants, and communities of color. The hashtag was viewed over a billion times on social media. Over 70 companies severed ties with the Trump brand, and, in February 2017, The New York Times reported Grab Your Wallet was pivotal in Nordstrom’s decision to do so.

In 2019, Grab Your Wallet became a 501(c)4 nonprofit. We have evolved into a more centralized resource for the flexing of individual economic power in ways that promote dignity and respect.

All our activities will be grounded in the goal of making a measurably more equitable world.
We will seek out new and innovative ways to help people flex their economic power for good
We aim to use activism, advocacy, and storytelling to advance gender equity, income equality, racial justice, labor justice, and other key forms of progress.
Workers deserve dignity, fair wages, and the right to organize if they choose. We will advocate for and elevate their voices and experiences.
We will seek to highlight key ways in which the U.S. can move from being an extractive economy to a regenerative one.
Grab Your Wallet began as a grassroots movement and cherishes the views of its community. We will listen.

Founder / President

As co-founder and president of Grab Your Wallet, Shannon's vision is a measurably more equitable world through the consolidated power of big hearted, fair minded people. She's proud of the big, vibrant assemblage of folks who form the Grab Your Wallet community, those who believe that corporations must evolve toward a more authentically equitable, humanistic, and transparent way of operating in the world. She's here to try to correct long standing power imbalances, advocate for workers, and help move our society toward a regenerative versus extractive economy.

Communications Manager

Prior to her work at GYWA, Anna served as the Head of Corporate Social Responsibility and Partnerships at SPROKIT, a mobile technology that helps formerly incarcerated people connect to resources. Anna attended Northwestern University where she received a BA in Communications.

Jen DaSilva
Founder and Executive Director, Start Small Think Big
An attorney, Jennifer is the chair of the San Francisco Economic Development Alliance, a collaborative of 18 non-profit organizations in San Francisco that provide support services to small businesses. She's also the founder of Start Small Think Big, a nonprofit that helps underserved small businesses create thriving businesses so owners can build wealth for themselves. Jennifer began her career doing community development the Bronx in the late 1990s as the Director of the East Side House Settlement Youth Leadership Program. After graduating from law school in 2001, Jennifer clerked on the DC District Court, worked as a litigation associate, and worked for the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law where she co-coordinated their 2008 west coast election protection effort. Prior to founding Start Small Think Big, Jennifer worked at a licensed microfinance organization in Phnom Penh where she helped to design a new micro-insurance product for the Cambodian market. Jennifer holds a BA in Political Science from Yale University, and a JD from Cornell Law School.
Sam Frank,
OneTrust

Sam's work has focused on helping nonprofits and progressive organizations utilize best in class technology. He served as the Head of Digital Operations and Data for the original 2017 Women's March on Washington, and again for the March for Our Lives. He led the product and innovation team at Stac Labs, a cooperative technology consultancy that serves Democratic state parties across the country. Most recently, Sam managed key aspects of Okta, a leading independent Identity partner for organizations around the globe.

Lilly Strieder,
Senior Strategist
A senior strategist, Lilly is a Wellesley alum who has held organizing positions with Hillary for America, Obama for America, and the Environmental Voter Project. At the D.C.-based digital consultancy where she now serves, Lilly works with members of Congress, PACs, and various organizations under the Democratic Party umbrella. She graduated from college in 2018 and interned with both Massachusetts U.S. Senators. While attending Wellesley, Lilly was recruited by Google for its D.C. based Elections Advertising Team and did marketing work for the Annenberg Foundation and American Heart Association. In the summer of 2017, Lilly was Grab Your Wallet’s first intern and joined its board as member and secretary in 2019. As of 2021, Lilly is the newly elected Membership Director of Woman’s National Democratic Club. She uses her experience in politics to give presentations on digital advocacy and combatting disinformation. Lilly graduated in 2018 from Wellesley College, with cross-registration sustainability certifications from MIT.
