If you are contacting a company, here's a sample of what you can say:
7
"Hi. I’m a customer of [CompanyName]. Unfortunately I can no longer do business with your company because it and/or its leaders have aided in the political efforts/endeavors of the Trump administration. If your company were to publicly commit to not doing so in the 2020 election cycle, I would enthusiastically return as a customer. Please communicate my feedback to management."

If you're wondering why a particular company isn't on this list....

The main portion of the #GrabYourWallet boycott list (this page) focuses primarily on larger companies and their leaders. You can check the "other companies on our radar" section for other listings. Entities NOT Being Boycotted at this Time
47
Bookstores selling books by or about Donald Trump and/or Trump familyNot only do bookstores sometimes have publisher-level (versus title-level) deals in place, but written material about political figures provides valuable strategic insight, even when that material financially benefits those figures, i.e. author Tony Schwartz's work. Shwartz has since emerged as on of Donald's key critics.
48
Companies reflected by Donald's cabinet picksEffective boycotts give the companies on the list a positive, actionable way to have their names removed from the list, so adding the companies of the companies reflected by Trump's cabinet would not be productive. For instance, adding ExxonMobil to the list when Tillerson was a part of the cabinet would not have been strategic, because Tillerson resigned from the company to take the position. If placed on the list, there wouldn't have been anything ExxonMobil could do to get off it. Instead, we added infor to the "Other Companies on Our Radar" part of the list.

CVSIn mid-Aug 2019, Out Magazine published a claim CVS is a "major Trump donor" b/c the corporate PAC of CVS gave $35k to the Trump Victory PAC for the 2020 election. Corporate PACs are controlled by the employees of the company, not the company itself or its leadership. At some companies, corporate PACs function as a way for employees to donate in alignment with the values of company leaders. The CEO of CVS, though, has given to both Republican and Democrat candidates and causes in the past including an Obama victory fund in 2011. He's never donated to Trump and the CVS corporate PAC donates fairly evenly across the aisle in general. In the 2018 midterms they gave slightly more to Democratic candidates, in fact. The CVS story, in our opinion, was more about one of its vendors, The Pill Club, being in a contract dispute with CVS. Pill Club is a subscription birth control service that delivers birth control and other prescriptions by mail. It appears to have used that one particular CVS PAC donation as leverage in its contract dispute with CVS. It may be that Pill Club was trying to piggyback a bit on the legitimate SoulCycle outrage (which was about the billionaire owner of a company versus an employee-run PAC) in order to get better reimbursement rate in its contract. It definitely speaks to the toxicity of the Trump administration that even an employee PAC that gives fairly evenly across the aisle can be implicated right now. The consumer concern being expressed about this situation should serve as an object lesson to other employee PACs considering donating to Trump Victory. We are including CVS in the "other companies on our radar" section of the site.
50
FacebookGiven its massive international user base, the ways in which Facebook contributed to the distribution of foreign-financed propaganda during the 2016 U.S. presidential election is of utmost concern, particularly given reports of Facebook's unconscionably lax practices and attitudes regarding user privacy and third party data collection. That Trump surrogate Peter Thiel is on the board of Facebook doesn't help. After extensive discussions w/ Grab Your Wallet participants, Facebook is NOT being placed on the boycott list at this time because it's a vital tool for self-organizing and Mark Zuckerberg has formally committed to fixing the problem. That said, we're watching this one closely and we certainly understand those who have already said goodbye forever to this platform. See "Other Companies on Our Radar" section of this site for more info on Facebook.
51
Home DepotHome Depot co-founder Bernie Marcus endorsed Donald Trump and routinely makes offensive/inflammatory remarks in public but he hasn't been an executive at the company for a long time (he doesn't even sit on the board). We feel certain that the current leadership of Home Depot hates it when Marcus is given the spotlight by the press, because it constantly makes people think he's still involved with the company. He's not. All Trump Home products on the Home Depot site were marked "discontinued" in the early days of the Grab Your Wallet boycott and are now simply gone. See "Other Companies on Our Radar" section of this site for more info on Home Depot. It is not known at this time what percentage of Home Depot's total stock is owned by Marcus but it is unlikely to be a controlling share.
52
Marvel Studios / DisneyIsaac "Ike" Perlmutter is an Israeli-American businessperson and chairman of Marvel Entertainment, a subsidiary of The Walt Disney Company. In the second quarter of 2019, Isaac Perlmutter donated $360,600 to the Trump Victory committee, a joint fundraising operation between the Trump campaign and the RNC. In the 2016 election cycle, Laurie Perlmutter, Isaac's wife, donated $5 million to a pro-Trump super PAC. It's sometimes reported that Perlmutter is the "Marvel CEO." This is incorrect. Perlmutter is the chair of Marvel Entertainment, which handles the comic books and television portion of the Marvel business. Kevin Feige is the president of Marvel Studios and reports directly to the chairman of The Walt Disney Studios. Because Feige has been so instrumental in bringing diversity to Marvel's stable of films (Black Panther, Captain Marvel, Black Widow (upcoming), Shang-Chi (upcoming), Blade (upcoming), Black Panther 2 (upcoming, and Captain Marvl 2 (upcoming)), The Grab Your Wallet Alliance is at this time making a judgement call to refrain from adding Marvel to the boycott list for now. That said, if you'd like to express your concern about Perlmutter's continued and reportedly very-problematic-for-many presence at Marvel, the head of its media relations team, Jeff Klein, can be reached at [email protected]
53
PayPalPaypal co-founder Peter Thiel is an official Trump campaign surrogate but his involvement with Paypal ended long before the 2016 election and he does not sit on the company's board. While some boycotts of PayPal have chosen to focus on Trump supporter Carl Ichan being a PayPal stockholder, publicly traded companies do not control who owns stock in them and according to the Wall Street Journal, Ichan owns only 3% of the company's stock, which is not a controlling share.
54
NiketownUpdate 12/6/17: Forbes reports that Niketown is leaving Trump's property in New York City and that Trump was a factor in that decision. The athletic apparel company’s flagship Niketown store in New York City was located in a space owned by Trump and was reportedly one of Donald's biggest revenue generators, but as with other companies that leased from Trump, it is acknowledged that the lease was likely signed prior to the election, which is why Niketown was never placed on the Grab Your Wallet list.
55
Washington PostAmazon was on the #GrabYourWallet boycott list & Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos personally owns the Washington Post, however the Post was an institution long before Amazon bought it and it continues to do some of the finest and most essential investigative reporting in the world. When polled 58% of #GrabYourWallet participants said WaPo should not be added to the list. In June 2018, Washington Post employees released an open letter to Jeff Bezos in video form, saying that Bezos had ignored their unions' pleas for pay equity and fair raises, despite the fact that they had doubled digital subscription rates and raised page views by over half in a one year period. We do encourage people to subscribe directly to WaPo versus doing so through the Amazon site or Kindle, Fire, etc.
